The title says it all!! The neighbor kids and Maya were creating a wagon train this weekend and they decided to use a bungee cord to connect two wagons together. When it kept falling off when they stopped they thought it would be a good idea for Maya to hold it. I am sure you can see where this is going... When they pulled the wagons, she couldn't hold onto it and it flung out of her hand and hit her eye. I heard her scream and went running. There was blood all over the left side of her face so I instantly knew it was pretty bad. After getting the bleeding to stop and swinging by the local clinic we were headed to the ER.
Once we arrived we immediately were taken to a room and then moved to the pediatric ER. Maya then had to endure the below battery of tests and procedures for the next 6 hours before were were finally released.
- Iodine to check for scratches on her eye – there is one
- Crazy eye machine to make sure there was no bleeding behind or around her eye – there isn’t
- CT scan to make sure there were no fractures or a concussion – there isn’t
- IV (a little tramatizing but again she was so strong)
- Sedation (SCARY for mom and dad to watch but went great)
- Stitches – not sure how many but quite a bit
Thru out it all Maya was super strong and did AMAZING!! They had a child life coach that would come in and talk about each step/test before the nurses and or doctors came in to do it. She was a life saver!!
Maya playing nurse while we waited
Blowing bubbles after her IV was put in
Snuggles with daddy (24hrs after it happened)
