Maya....

This update will be focused soley on our almost 7 year old!! Where has the time gone!!!

Since moving to California, Maya has been excelling at everything she has done. Here is a quick recap:

School - in California they have this thing in schools called "over-flowed". Well it happened to Maya. Long story short, her "home" school (the closest elementary school to our house) had met its cap for 1st graders, so the district over-flowed us to another elementary school. We were told there was a chance a spot would open at the home school but their were no guarantees. Maya started first grade and after only 6 days of school, a spot opened at the home school so she moved. What a way to start the year!! Given all the craziness the first couple of weeks, Maya is excelling at school and is really enjoying it. She is really becoming a great reader, loves math and last night was telling us about verbs and adjectives. After school, she goes to Bounce Spot and is having a great time there meeting and playing with lots of friends.

Soccer - Maya started soccer practice literally 3 days after we moved out here and picked up right where she had left off in Iowa. She loves soccer and is sooo good at it!! Her team was all girls this year and their were 13 members. They were called the Lady Knights and played a total of 10 games. They started out the season a little slow but ended with a record of 7-3!! Most of the team was second graders so they will not all play together again but man it was fun watching them all play and really improve as a team this season.

Her sister - Maya is the best big sister to Leilani we could have ever dreamed of. She is always asking her to play, coloring with her, bossing her around, and over all just making sure that Leilani is ok. Maya has even taken over my roll in the mornings and helps Leilani get dressed and has even started doing her hair!! It is so amazing to watch them interact and go up together!

Family - It is taking a little bit of time for Maya to get used to having so much family around, but she is getting more and more exciting about having cousins to play with at holidays. Having multiple grandparents and aunts around has also been exciting for her as they spoil her at every chance they can :)

Overall, I was very worried with all the changes that were happening so fast as Maya is someone who has previously excelled with a very consistent routine. In the end, she showed me that doing something totally unexpected (moving across the country) can be fun and a true grwoing experience for all of us!!
